Updating our Hadoop Vocabulary Gartner Analyst Merv Adrian is spot on in his blog What, Exactly is ‘Proprietary Hadoop’? Proposed: ‘distribution-specific’. Merv proposes we update our Hadoop vocabulary replacing “proprietary” with “distribution-specific.” The term ‘proprietary’ represents ‘marketing FUD’ and I have seen it used primarily by vendors who have a harder time competing on parameters that matter to customers, such as product/technology advantages and support quality.
